ABOUT PLETTENBERG BAY
A LITTLE ABOUT PLETT
Plettenberg Bay, known as the St. Tropez of South Africa, and dubbed the ‘Jewel of the Garden Route’, is famous for being one of the most spectacular holiday areas in the country. It offers 28km of unspoiled beaches, both the Bitou and Keurbooms Rivers, and our famous Robberg Peninsula that extends some 4km eastwards, providing a sensational, natural buffer against the prevailing winds.
LOCATION
Situated in the Garden Route region of the Cape Province, this beautiful seaside town is flanked by the Indian Ocean, Tsitsikamma Mountains and lush indigenous forests. Plett is only 520km east of Cape Town (± 4½hrs drive) and a mere 240km south west of Port Elizabeth (± 2hr drive). The George airport is only 90km, (1hr drive), away.
CLIMATE
Plettenberg Bay enjoys a marvellous temperate climate throughout the year, including a warm sea temperature, with more sunshine and less wind than most coastal resorts. Our ‘winter’ months extend between June and August, of which August is traditionally the coldest (ave. min 13°C; ave. max 17°C), and generally the rainy month (± 64mm). The average maximum annual temperature is approximately 21°C.

GENERAL
Plettenberg Bay is spread over an area of approximately 1200km, with roughly 25 000 people residing within the confines of the Greater Metropolitan Area. Available activities include most sea and lagoon orientated sports, tennis, bowls, horse riding, forest trails, whale watching (July to Sept.) and golf. Plett is serviced by all major car rental firms and daily flights to and from the major South African cities (ie. Cape Town and Johannesburg) via George (± 1hr drive), are available.
